What is the Experience Letter Generator?

An experience letter (or experience certificate) confirms that someone worked for your organisation, in which role and for how long. A relieving letter confirms that they have resigned, been released from their duties and, usually, that their dues are settled. New employers in India routinely ask for both, and many companies issue them together.

This generator writes either letter — or a combined experience and relieving letter — on your letterhead. Enter the employee’s details and dates of service and it works out the tenure (“4 years, 3 months”), words the letter formally and consistently with the pronoun you choose, and adds a tasteful conduct remark, key responsibilities and the relieving statement as needed. It all runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose the letter type — experience, relieving, or both — and how to refer to the employee (they, she or he).
  2. Add your letterhead: company name, logo, address and contact details.
  3. Enter the employee’s name, ID, designation, department, joining date and last working day; the tenure is calculated.
  4. Pick a conduct remark or write your own, and list key responsibilities if you want them included.
  5. For a relieving letter, add the resignation date and confirm handover and settlement, then press Download PDF.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an experience letter and a relieving letter?
An experience letter describes the employment: the dates, the role and often how the person performed. A relieving letter confirms that the employee’s resignation was accepted and they were released from their duties on the last working day, and often that there are no outstanding dues. Choose “Experience & relieving” to put both in one letter.
How is the tenure calculated?
Both the joining date and the last working day count as days worked, so 1 January to 31 December is exactly one year. Whole months are counted from the joining date; when a month is shorter than the joining day (someone who joined on 31 January), the month is complete at the end of the shorter month. Days are shown only for service of less than a month.
What should an experience letter include?
The company letterhead, the date and a reference number, the employee’s full name and ID, their designation and department, the joining date and last working day, and the signature of an authorised person such as the HR head. A short remark on conduct and a list of responsibilities are common but optional.
Can an employee make their own experience letter here?
Only the employer can issue an experience or relieving letter. An employee can use this tool to prepare a draft for HR to review, correct and issue on the company’s behalf, but a letter that claims to come from a company that did not issue it is a forgery.
