What is the FD Calculator?

An FD calculator tells you how much a fixed deposit will pay you at maturity. Enter the amount you are depositing, the interest rate the bank is offering and the tenure, and it shows the maturity amount, the interest you will earn and the effective yearly yield once compounding is taken into account.

Most Indian banks compound FD interest every quarter, so that is the default; you can switch to monthly, half-yearly or yearly compounding to match a particular scheme. The year-by-year table shows how the deposit grows, which helps when you are comparing a one-year deposit with a five-year tax-saver. Everything is calculated in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Enter the deposit amount, or pick one of the quick amounts.
  2. Enter the annual interest rate offered by the bank.
  3. Enter the tenure in years and months.
  4. Choose the compounding frequency if it is not quarterly.
  5. Read the maturity amount and interest earned; press Copy for a summary.

Frequently asked questions

How is FD maturity calculated?
A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n × t), where P is the deposit, r the annual rate as a decimal, n the number of compounding periods a year (4 for quarterly) and t the tenure in years. ₹1 lakh at 7% for 5 years, compounded quarterly, matures at about ₹1,41,478.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes. FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. Banks deduct TDS once the interest in a year crosses the threshold, unless you submit Form 15G or 15H. This calculator shows the amount before any tax or TDS.
What if I choose a payout option instead?
With monthly or quarterly payout the interest is paid to you rather than reinvested, so it does not compound and the deposit itself stays the same. This calculator is for cumulative deposits, where interest is reinvested until maturity.
