Your SIP

Equity funds have historically returned 10–14% over long periods; debt funds 6–8%. Returns are not guaranteed.

Raise your SIP by this much every year, for example in line with pay rises.

What is the SIP Calculator?

A SIP calculator shows what a systematic investment plan could grow into. Enter how much you put into a mutual fund every month, the return you expect and for how many years, and it shows the total you will invest, the estimated returns and the projected value at the end — the number that makes a small monthly habit worth sticking to.

It assumes each instalment is invested at the start of the month and compounds monthly, which is how most fund houses and investment apps present SIP returns. Add a yearly step-up to see what happens when your SIP rises with your salary, and read the year-by-year table to see how compounding takes over in the later years. Everything is calculated in your browser.

How to use it

  3. Enter how many years you plan to stay invested.
  4. Optionally add a yearly step-up percentage.

Frequently asked questions

How is SIP maturity value calculated?
FV = P × ((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i), where P is the monthly amount, i is the monthly return (the annual return divided by 12 and by 100) and n is the number of months. ₹10,000 a month at 12% for 10 years grows to about ₹23.23 lakh, of which ₹12 lakh is what you invested.
What return should I assume?
There is no guaranteed figure. Diversified equity funds in India have returned roughly 10–14% a year over long periods, debt funds 6–8%. Try a cautious rate as well as an optimistic one, and remember that past returns do not predict future ones.
What is a step-up SIP?
A step-up (or top-up) SIP raises your monthly amount by a fixed percentage every year, usually to keep pace with pay rises. Even a 10% yearly step-up makes a large difference to the final value over 15–20 years.
Does this include tax and fund expenses?
No. The projection is before the fund’s expense ratio, exit loads and capital gains tax. Expense ratios are already reflected in a fund’s published returns, so if you use those as your assumption the figure is a fair estimate before tax.
