What is the PDF Editor?

The PDF Editor lets you change a PDF without the program that made it: fix a typo or a date in the existing text, type onto a form that was never made fillable, sign it, add a logo or a stamp, white out a line, highlight what matters, draw arrows and boxes, and fill in real form fields. Open a PDF, pick a tool and click on the page.

Your edits are written into the original file as real PDF content, not as a picture of the page. Text you add uses the standard PDF fonts, so it stays sharp at any zoom and can be selected and searched. Shapes and ink are vector paths, images keep their original quality, and every page you did not touch stays exactly as it was. The whole thing runs in your browser: the PDF is never uploaded, which is why it is safe for contracts, bank forms and ID documents.

How to use it

  1. Drop a PDF onto the page, or click to choose one.
  2. To change existing words, choose Edit text and click the outlined text. To add new text, choose Add text and click where it should go.
  3. Use Sign to draw, type or upload a signature, and Image for a logo, photo or stamp. Drag to move them and pull a corner to resize.
  4. Whiteout, Highlight, Draw, Box, Ellipse and Line work by dragging on the page. Click any form field to fill it in.
  5. Use the arrows above each page to reorder, add a blank page or delete one. Ctrl+Z undoes any step.
  6. Press Download PDF to save the edited copy.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is opened, edited and saved entirely by your own browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, which you can confirm in your browser's network tab, so it is safe to edit agreements, bank forms, certificates and ID documents.
How do I edit the existing text in a PDF?
Choose Edit text. Every line of text the PDF contains is outlined; click one and type. The editor matches the size, style and colour of the original and covers the old words with the page's background colour. Scanned pages are pictures with no text inside, so for those use Whiteout and then Add text.
Does Whiteout or Edit text remove the original text?
No — it covers it. The old words are hidden on the page and in print, but they are still inside the file and can be found by copying or searching. Do not rely on it to redact confidential information such as account numbers; for that, re-create the document without the information.
Will the edited PDF lose quality?
No. Pages are not re-rendered or re-compressed. Your text, shapes and ink are added as vector content and images are embedded as they are, so the file looks as sharp as before and existing text stays selectable.
How do I sign a PDF online?
Choose Sign, then draw your signature with a mouse, trackpad or finger, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of your signature on white paper (the paper is made transparent). Place it on the page, resize it and download. This is an image of your signature, not a certificate-based digital signature.
Why does some of my text become an image?
The standard PDF fonts cover English and Western European letters. Text with other characters, such as the rupee sign or Hindi, is added as a high-resolution image of that text box instead, so it prints sharply but cannot be selected. The page tells you when this happens.
Can I edit a password-protected PDF?
Not directly, because a protected PDF cannot be changed. Open it in a viewer that knows the password, save or print it as a new PDF, then open that copy here.
